Molokai Driftwood, Original Plein air Painting
Original plein air painting by California Artist, Ronald Lee Oliver.
Painted en plein air at D.T. Fleming State Beach in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA. This gracefully gnarled piece of driftwood caught my eye and urged me to set my easel on the beach to attempt a rendering of it in paint. The water surged and washed about my ankles, making me wonder if it was going out, or in as I painted this one. Luckily, after a few minutes I was able to see the tide was indeed going out as I stood at the water’s edge on D.T. Fleming beach. Across the channel in the distance can be seen the Island of Molokai Once again, I felt blessed with the privilege to capture the essence of this moment in time spent on this beautiful Maui beach in Hawaii (December 2014).
